50 First Dates (2004)

Hawaiian vet Henry Roth is a serial philanderer who only ever has sex with women visiting Hawaii on holiday and always ends the relationship before they leave. One day he meets a native girl on the other side of the island, Lucy, and he knows that things will never be the same again.

7/10

While the movie frequently works, things don’t quite convince all the time and a lot of the jokes are too unpleasantly sexual for the rest of the film. Sandler and Barrymore demonstrate easy chemistry once more and Sean Astin provides surprisingly good comic support. The theme of things we do for love (familial and romantic) provides a sweet core like a lot of Sandler’s movies and director Peter Segal successfully keeps this in clear focus while keeping the jokes coming.

This movie contains mild swear words, strong sexually-themed dialogue, bad language and drug references, sexually-themed and offensive hand gestures and extreme comic violence, unpleasant scenes and sensuality, sexual references.
