Tray Features

• The tray icon can now have a tooltip allowing you to disable the balloon if you wish and still receive information by hovering over the icon. The Tray Configuration form has a new System Tray Tool-tip area to customise the tool-tip. They are also a couple of additional registry settings to customise the tool-tip.
• "Delay shutdown when intercepted" added to Tray Configuration/Advanced/Shutdown options.
• If Slimm GBPVR is already running, when you start a new copy it will terminate the old one. This is handy for when Windows Explorer crashes and doesn’t restore the icon. Now you simply run Slimm GBPVR again; the old instance will be terminated and the new one, with a shiny new icon, will execute. It has been used to provide command-line access to Slimm GBPVR’s delayed shutdown features.
• Command line switch /shutdown added.

Tray Bug Fixes

• If Slimm GBPVR cannot retrieve the tuner status (if, for example, one of your tuners has crashed), it will not execute an automatic (delayed) shutdown.
• Tuner Status warning and error messages (that appear when the tuner status cannot be retrieved once or several times respectively) now use balloon tips instead of message boxes.
• Auto-restart recording service now attempts to restart service a few times before throwing up an error balloon and not trying again.
• Multiple instances of Slimm GBPVR are now closed via PostThreadMessage WM_QUIT instead of Process.Kill. This means that the application closes properly and the system tray icon is removed.

Tray Coding

• Slimm GBPVR now sets ES_AWAYMODE_REQUIRED for SetThreadExecutionState in compliance with Vista’s new rules on power management.
• Vista and above only: Slimm GBPVR also sets ShudownBlockReason while GBPVR is recording so that when it prevents a system shutdown, Vista can tell the user why.

Tray Features

• Registry setting DeleteComskipFiles removed and replaced with DeleteExtensionsAfterPlayback. This contains a list of extensions that will be recycled by SlimmGBPVR after playback of a file has finished. For example, given the extensions ".log;.fif" and a recording filename of "C:\recording.mpg", SlimmGBPVR will attempt to recycle "C:\recording.log", "C:\recording.fif", "C:\recording.mpg.log" and "C:\recording.mpg.fif".
• Added ability to sort lists of recordings. It is used to reorder the items in the reoccurring menu.
• SlimmGBPVR now supports gif, png and jpg ChannelLogos. Requested by b00sfuk.

GBPVRcli Features

Slimm Stopwatch 2 now hosted on Download.com

Submitted Slimm Stopwatch 2 on Download.com’s free package and it’s now listed. Took about three weeks but you get what you pay for.

Perhaps that will spur me to create the product page on my own site. I’ve done about 95% of a flash animation that demonstrates the util but haven’t finished that either. Procrastination is, as they say, the thief of time. I’ll make it a goal to finish both items this week.

Slimm Stopwatch 2

Slimm Stopwatch is a little stopwatch utility that automatically shrinks to the task bar when you start (or continue) the timer. While in the task bar it continues to show you the elapsed time. When you click the task bar to restore the window, the timer stops.

I use it for timing public talks I deliver. I write the talk in Word and then need to practice it but I found all other stopwatch utilities always managed to be or feel in the way. So I wrote this. Version 1 was written in Visual Basic and had a less streamlined interface though the actual minimising to the task bar upon start and stopping upon restore idea was the same.

This is a pre-release of the utility as I haven’t yet got around to making a nice page for it on my website or deciding how to upload it to Upload.com.

Here is a Flash animation demonstrating what it does. The animation was created using Swish 2. The animation isn’t yet quite finished as it doesn’t have a way of stopping the sound effects but I will get around to doing that soon.
