Logitech LX5 Cordless Optical Mouse battery life update

Logitech LX5 Cordless Optical Mouse
Logitech LX5 Cordless Optical Mouse review

On the 9th May this year, I reviewed the Logitech LX5 Cordless Optical Mouse, awarding it a solid 7/10. I noted with mild incredulity the claimed battery life of eight months.

I continue to be happy with the mouse.

However, the real battery life is six weeks. Just recharged them last night. Which is about the same as my previous Logitech mouse (a little one that is part of the Logitech DiNovo Cordless Desktop for Notebooks), a mouse that didn’t have such a long claimed battery life.

However, I do know why my batteries only lasted 20% of the manufacture claimed life. I made the silly mistake of using my mouse. I move it around and click the buttons and flick the wheel and everything. What a fool.

  1. I’ve started using it with just 1 AA (rechargeable) battery installed. I’m getting full functionality. Don’t know yet how long the battery will last, but I find it too heavy to push around with 2 batteries and just right with 1.

  2. Agreed about the life of a rechargeable battery. However, I use my mouse for about 12-16 hours a day. Logitech don’t specify how they arrived at their six months battery life but I suspect it isn’t based on using it quite that much. Thanks for your comment.

  3. that is bizarre.

I have a LX5 I bought as part of a wireless desktop…and the included AA’s gave me a solid six months (actually seven) of use before it warned me they were dead. i think your problem is you’re using rechargables…which have a faster drain than alkalines..espically if you’ve been using them for a while (i’m sure you didn’t completely drain them before charging..that’s bad specifically for ni-cads but has some effect on ni-mh as well).

i constantly move mine around and it gets at least 4 hours of use a day. i’d be suspect of your batteries rather than your usage behavior.
