Iron Man (2008)

Tony Stark, weapons-inventor and playboy extraordinaire, is captured in the field and ordered on pain of death to construct an example of his latest mega-death-dealer, the Jericho, from previous Stark weapons that the kidnappers had purchased. Shocked, not only by the circumstance but also by the presence of his weapons on the opposing side, he decides on a new life direction and uses his time to build, not a missile system, but a high-tech suit of armour.

8/10

Fun superhero movie featuring outstanding work from Robert Downey Jr. as the man in Iron Man. The superhero scenes largely fall a bit flat and the climactic battle is undermined by questions in the audience’s mind due to the insta-arrival and mastery of the villain’s Iron Man suit but everything with Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark has dialogue and attitude with a refreshing cockiness and fizz and energy (including a great last line) that the shapeless action scenes lack.

This movie contains mild swear words, adult dialogue, double-speak, innuendo and extreme mecha violence, strong unpleasant scenes and sexuality.

Classified 12A by BBFC. Persons under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
