Broken Arrow (1996)

Stealth bomber pilot Major Deakin steals a couple of nuclear missiles in order to hold the US to ransom but does not count on the survival and resilience of his co-pilot Captain Hale.

7/10

Cheerful action movie with plenty of beautifully-filmed explosions. This is basically a six-star film but it’s carried out with such glee that it’s a joy to watch mad, bad, "aint it cool", classic movie villain John Travolta get beaten by the good guy and it turns out to be a bit of a minor action classic. The film starts badly with what is possibly the worst boxing match ever caught on film. However, Woo soon settles into an action-cliché rut that manages to up the entertainment factor. Almost every single vehicle used in this film is blown up in a spectacular slow motion bath of smoke and fire. If you like your films noisy and ‘splosion packed, this will keep you happy but it is a shame that Woo proves unable to bring anything more to the show than standard Hollywood clichés.

This movie contains sexual swear words and graphic and extreme gun violence, unpleasant scenes, extreme melee violence.
